In the integral age, the power of the computer is creating a convergence of words, sounds and images in the arts. Perhaps that is why movies have become the beating heart of our culture. Film is the art form that most directly portrays the mentality of our times. Despite the momentum in the other direction, higher values can and are being conveyed in movies. Forces are at work in Hollywood and throughout the planet to make movies that open the heart, and which seize the mind with the drama of the unfolding of spirit. The visionary in art has also blossomed, in painting and computer art as well as music. And happily, we are witnessing the emergence of an integral theory of art, to help us to understand the meaning and value of the movies and all the sacred arts, and showing that art, the expression of beauty, can never be divorced from goodness or truth. |
